Forward Bend

Uttanasana

Mechanics of the Pose:

  • Start with standing in Mountain Pose
  • Feet together, big toes touching
  • Inhale
  • On Exhale fold forward
  • Place hands next to your feet on the ground
  • Hold for a few breaths, on each exhale gently fold forward a bit more

Weight should not be on your heels, rather equally distributed or on the balls of your feet

Modifications

  • Feeling tight? Bend your knees as much as needed, place hands on your shins or grab your angles
  • Other hand positions: Place hands on the floor on the outside of each foot or place your forearms on your calves (see photo)
