The Silence Of Breath

August 11, 2011

in Thoughts from the journey

Can you shift your attention inward, ever-so-slightly as not to disturb the stillness inside you? Become a curious observer. Look inside. Feel the stillness, that is not still at all. Listen to the inner silence, that is not silent at all. What do you feel? What do you hear?

Your breath, that is your lover and your life is greeting you. Can you observe your breath without changing its tempo or tone? You may close your eyes, to get closer to your breath without disturbing it. Just let it happen. Like a wave caressing the shore, the breath moves into you, bringing life through the body that you are in. Weaving its way, this way and that. Once depleted, the breath finds a way out, moving away debris and staleness.

So the breath keeps going, in and out, in and out.

Take notice of the breath moving in. Feel the breath moving out. Can you see the tiny moment in between? There is a moment, where time seems to stand still, at the end of the breath coming in and before the breath moves out. Between every inhale and exhale. This moment, this gap, this space in between is. What do you see in this moment? What do you feel in this gap? What does this space hold? It’s there, it always is.

The greatest teachers in the world couldn’t tell you what you will find in this moment. They can guide you and point you on your way, but the spaces in between are yours to explore, discover and to know.

What is, that which is you?
